“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isa. 9:6, ESV).
We’ve heard many sermons quoting this verse. Yet we’ve not so much heard about the context or background of this verse. We haven’t really studied the gloom that surrounds the glory of Christmas. Do you know that there was the gloom of Christmas before there was the glory of Christmas?
The Glory of Christmas is the Glory, Not Just of the Birth of Christ, But Also the Meaning of That Birth. The Glory of Christmas is the glory of His character as the God-man and the glory of His rule over the all the earth as the Lord of all.
He is not just the Coming Child as the prophet Isaiah prophesied, but the Coming King. He is not just the Child who was born, but the King who will rule the earth when He comes again.
