A Question of God’s Strategy

The three men have finished talking with Sarah. They now set out toward Sodom. Then the LORD posed a second question, found in v. 17. “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?” Actually, this question is part of a larger question in v. 18. In v. 18, the LORD acknowledged that Abraham shall play a big part in God’s plan for the nations. Abraham shall have many children. He shall produce a great nation. He shall also bless all the nations of the earth. Seeing Abraham’s big role in God’s plan, God then asked the question, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?”

The first question is about God’s capability. The second question now is whether God has a strategy. The purpose of God is to glorify God. The question then is whether God shall share His strategy with you and enlist you in that purpose.

Yet the LORD has answered His own question in v. 19. Gen. 18:19, “For I have chosen him.” Did you read that? God has chosen Abraham to accomplish His plan. God has also chosen us to fulfill His plan to glorify Himself. Eph. 1:4, “He has chosen us before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before Him.”

The question then is whether you are living out His plan. Are you living a holy life for God today? Jesus said, “You are my friends if you do what I command you . . . You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit” (John 15:14, 16). Do you obey Christ’s commands in your life? Do you serve Him today?

You see, God’s elect is God’s partner in His plan. God chose Abraham as His friend. He chose Abraham as His partner in His plan to bless the nations of the earth. Those whom God has chosen, He makes His partners.
