God is the Infinite Source of Everything

Paul gives three reasons why God is indebted to no one in v. 36. “For from him and through him and to him are all things.” This brings us to the third thing about the depth of God.

Third, God is the Infinite Source, Sustainer, and End of Everything. The first reason why God is under no obligation to anyone is that all things come from Him. From him are all things! From him come all things. From him begin all things.

This is the point of David’s prayer in 1 Chron. 29:14, “For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you.” This is a good verse for giving our offerings. Why do you keep your money from God? All your money comes from God. The money you give back to God actually belongs to God. We give back to God only that which God already owns. Giving our tithes and offerings therefore is an acknowledgment that God owns it.

This is not to say that sin comes from God. All things come from God, except sin. But from God is the plan of salvation of all sinners. From him is the decision to save sinners through Christ. From him is the righteousness of God made manifest in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

God is the infinite source of everything.
