In Ps. 16: 6, David says that “the lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.” David has surveyed his portion, his land, his inheritance, which is the LORD Himself. He looks around and concludes that his lines are “pleasant places.” He has gotten the good part! He finds his inheritance a “beautiful inheritance.”
Listen! When the LORD is your portion, you get the good part! You have the best and the most beautiful inheritance. Since you have gotten the best part and the most beautiful part, all other things are nothing!
That is what Paul is saying in Phil. 3:7-8, “But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ.”
Without Christ, you have nothing. But with Christ, you have everything! Without Christ, you are the poorest of all. But with Christ, you are the richest of all.
This is the faith of David—a faith that finds satisfaction in God alone, because God Himself has satisfied him completely!
Is God your chosen portion today? Do you depend on God for your existence? If so, you have chosen the good part of the land!
Find your satisfaction in God alone, for He satisfies completely!
