Theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven

What is the blessing for those who are persecuted for righteousness? “For theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 5:10, ESV). Theirs is the kingdom of God. They shall receive the kingdom of God. The rule of God belongs to them.

In our world, the rich in spirit own the land. But in God’s world, the poor in spirit own the kingdom. In our world, the powerful rule the earth. But in God’s world, the meek shall inherit the earth. In our world, the unrighteous are filled. But in God’s world, those who hunger for right shall be filled. In our world, the merciless receive mercy. But in God’s world, the merciful shall receive mercy. In our world, the dirty in heart claim to draw near to God. But in God’s world, the pure in heart shall see God. In our world, the war-makers show the character of sinners. But in God’s world, the peacemakers shall be called sons of God.

In today’s world, the rich have the power, not the poor. The powerful politicians have the power, not the persecuted.

But in the kingdom of God, it is reversed. The poor in spirit shall receive the kingdom of God. The persecuted shall receive the kingdom of God.
